The arts play a critical role in telling stories that are often hidden. At a time when Latinx and LGBTQ communities are under massive attack, FUERZAfest creates a safe space where brown queer and trans people can come together to celebrate one another, enjoy each other's brilliance in art, dance and theater and engage in much-needed social discussion.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
FOR 15-MINUTE PLAY AND/OR MONOLOGUES FOR FUERZAFEST 2024
The Hispanic Federation's FUERZAfest is inviting all Latinx LGBTQ+ identifying artists to submit proposals for a 15-minuteplay/monologue, to be considered for participation in the 9th edition of FUERZAfest, which is scheduled to take place from May 8th to May 17th, 2024, at the LGBTQ Center.
GUIDELINES
Please submit your 15-minute play and/or monologue in doc., docx, or .pdf format. Your 15-minute play and/or monologue should be no more than 15 minutes long and should focus on stories of the Latinx LGBTQ+ community that aim to uplift, educate, impact our lives, or recognize the progress we’ve made. While we welcome performers from all communities, we encourage most performers to be from the Latinx LGBTQ+ community. The submission must hold the intellectual property rights to the scripts presented. Plays can be in either Spanish or English.
OUR COMMITMENT
Selected artists, groups, and companies participating in FUERZAfest will receive a stipend of $400, and the opportunity to be considered for the FUERZA Awards. To process the stipend payment, a Form W-9 is required.

1. The Hispanic Federation will not assume any costs (whether permanent or temporary) for copyright, salaries, commissions, or bonds that are agreed between artists/groups/companies, their employees, actors, designers, technicians, etc.
2. The Hispanic Federation is not responsible for transportation and/or stay costs of selected artists/groups/companies to participate in FUERZAfest NY 2024.
3. Participating plays/monologues will be chosen after a first panel of judges evaluates the scripts and provides recommendations to the organizers
of the festival on the artistic value and impact of the piece.
4. The awards selection will be through a numeric point system. A second panel of judges consisting of theater professionals, LGBTQ activists, and festival sponsors; will oversee and evaluate performance and productions. Decisions made by the panel are final and may not be appealed.
